Harley Breakout

David Maund talks about his Harley. . . . .

“I wanted to do as much of my Harley customisation project myself as possible so it felt like I had invested myself into it, its too easy to give it to a shop and say do this and this and this please. Its also much more cost effective!! I needed to get my Harley Breakout blacked out, I’m not a chrome guy.

I stripped as much chrome off as possible and that started researching powder coaters in the area. I am so happy to have found Goldburn, Matt understands bikes and also understands the need for perfection, its no good having a bike customised to show quality if the black out has orange peel!!

I’m delighted with the results and wouldn’t hesitate to use Goldburn any time I need anything done again. Great family run business who actually care about what they do.

King Charles Lego Sculpture

Goldburns are delighted to have been involved with this amazing lego sculpture of King Charles.

The purple steel skeleton framework and stand was powder coated by Goldburns and used by the Fairy Bricks charity as the platform to build the sculpture, which can now be seen at the Hamleys store in London.

Long live the King!

1949 Land Rover Series One 80

Named ‘Pickwick’ after Mrs Helen Goldburn.
Registration: KXS332 1949 (1950 model)
Chassis No: R6101237. Engine No: 06113583
Colour: Deep Bronze Green.
Owned and lovingly restored by Matthew Goldburn and Kate Green of Goldburn Finishers Ltd.

Processes carried out at Goldburns included: Shot Blasting, Aqua Blasting, Stove Enamelling and Powder Coating.

Summary:
Bought in 2019 from Agricultural Cross Country Vehicles as a complete restoration project, this is an ex-Australian, ex Snowy Mountain vehicle. These Land Rovers hold a very special place in Australian history and are highly prized amongst collectors in Australia.
The Land Rover is from the first full year of production (1949) but is from the latter part of the year and the chassis number designation is from the 1950 year-model.
Restored over a two year period, the vehicle was stripped to its component parts and carefully and extensively restored.
The standard of finish is exceptionally high, and the paint finish alone reflects hundreds of hours of restoration and preparation. It is fair to say that the quality of the finish is far higher than any vehicle originally produced at Land Rover’s Solihull factory in 1949!

1938 KTS Velocette

Here is another superb restoration with paint finishing by Goldburn Finishers.

The machine was purchased by owner Jeff in March 2022 as a ‘basket case’. The previous owner having totally dismantled the machine, partially rebuilt the bottom end, and stored the remaining parts for over 20 years.

The rebuild was completed in 12 months, with particular attention being given to the overhead camshaft drive, valve and ignition timing and the lubrication system. A refurbished magneto was fitted and the original 6volt dynamo and lighting system restored.

The petrol tank was completely stripped, relined and repainted.

The machine will be road tested and offered for MOT testing shortly.

1960s Matchless G5

Goldburn’s are delighted with the finish they achieved on this Matchless G5 special which was recently restored by AJS/Matchless Club member Ted Sykes.
He purchased the bike for the princely sum of £50 and had it delivered to his home address where I gave it a good jet wash prior to stripping it down. There it lay in several boxes for the next 32 years. At the end of 2019 it was time to bite the bullet and rebuild the G5.

The bike was featured on the cover of the Feb23 Jampot Magazine. The full Artice and photos are courtesy of Ted and AMOC Jampot magazine.

1955 Velocette MSS

Goldburn’s are especially pleased with the show standard finish they achieved on the tank of this ’55 Velo.

The date of manufacture was 28th February 1955, and it was supplied new from Veloce Ltd. to Angus Motor Cycles of Sevenoaks in Kent.
It was purchased for £700 from it’s first owner in April 1989 with a mileage of 61,032. The bike was restored by the owner, a Velocette Owners Club member, and ridden for 30 years.

The current owner acquired the machine from him in June 2019. The mileage then being 115,752.
To get the bike looking its best, the tank was first blasted, then the inside was cleaned and sealed. Black gloss finish was applied, and correct gold pinstripes added. The Velocette logo was airbrushed in gold before the whole tank was clear gloss laquered. Finally the tank was flatted and polished to achieve a stunning finish.

Brian Davis Triumph Tiger 100SS Race Replica

Goldburn’s recently did restoration work on this classic Triumph race bike. The Tiger 100ss is an accurate replica of the bike that Brian Davis rode in the 1963 Thruxton 500 Mile Race.

The frame, swinging arm, and all the cycle parts were blasted and powder coated in black. Engine castings and alloy parts were fully aqua blasted. Petrol tank, mudguards and semi-bathtub fairing (also known as a ‘bikini’) were prepared and painted in a Two-Pack Arctic White. Mudguards also have a gold central pinstripe.

The restored bike (also shown as acquired, with the purple tank before any restoration) is a genuine 1963 Triumph Tiger 100ss, but built to the race spec. of the original bike. Things like race style handlebars, rear set footrests, gear lever and brake pedal were all purpose made as the originals are no longer available.

In 1963 Brian Davis, with his co rider Bill Scott, finished first in the Senior (500 Class), beating the Velocette Venom ridden by Tom Phillips and Tom Thorp.
They finished a creditable 5th place overall, with only four 650’s ahead of them.

The two photos taken at Thruxton in 1963, show Brian having just passed the two 600 BMW’s, and Brian with the throttle fully open on the straight.
The two main shots show the beautifully restored Triumph in all it’s glory, plus one of the donor bike as it was acquired, with purple tank.

Tweety – 1981 Suzuki ZR50SLK

Goldburn’s are pleased to have helped in the transformation of this very rare little machine. A Suzuki ZR50SLK from 1981, affectionately known by it’s owners as “Tweety”.

This particular bike was first registered in October of 1981 and was one of just twenty eight sold in the UK. It is now only one of ten that still survive.

The bike has the nickname “Tweety” for the yellow paintwork, an option when new. However not many were sold in this colour which makes it ever rarer – and it’s the bikes original colour.

It has just completed an eighteen month restoration from which it started in a very bad condition, to its now better than new finish.
The whole engine was aqua blasted and wet paint finished. Frame and cycle parts were blasted and gloss black powder coated. The tank and side panels were stripped and prepared (tank internally sealed) before paint was applied. Pinlines were added before the final laquer coats, flatting and polishing.
A real Show Stopper!

1976 Honda ST70 Mini Bike

Another classic restoration by Jim Pennix highlights the impressive paintwork carried out at Goldburn’s.

This particular minibike was first registered in 1976 and bought from new by Jim’s old boss.
It was acquired three years ago and it’s total restoration started in August 2021 and was completed March 2022.

Introduced in 1969, the ST70 (also known as DAX) was fitted with Honda’s ubiquitous single overhead cam horizontal four stroke engine, as also fitted to the Honda C70 cub.
A key feature of the ST-series is the pressed-steel “T-bone” frame that distinguishes it from Honda’s other minibikes: the Z50 Monkey and the CF50.

Producing 5.2bhp @ 9000rpm, this machine weighing in at just 66kg, had acceleration that could easily catch out the unwary rider.

Today, this machine has an almost cult like status, and will command impressively high prices amongst mini bike enthusiasts. With those looks and that cool Hi-Line exhaust, it’s really no surprise!
